Greetings //FirstName//,
Spring in Northern California is a time for rebirth and renewal. As the last signs of winter start to melt away, we are excited to see the rolling hills lush with green ground cover and speckeled with bursts of color from the wildflowers. It is a joy to hear the chirps and buzzing that the birds and the bees make as they get busy doing their thing and the air is filled with a freshness as light rains sprinkle down, waking up the earth under our feet. Spring is also a time for celebration, and boy do we have a lot to celebrate!

BLOG OF THE MONTH
"LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE BIRDS & THE BEES"

As the buds on the vines start popping up, grape growers and vineyard managers are busy preparing for the next six to seven months of full-time vineyard babysitting. Factors such as weather, insects, rodents and birds will all need to be closely monitored and managed to help the vines survive, thrive and produce high quality grapes that will be harvested in late summer and early fall.

This begs the question, “Are insects and birds harmful to the vineyards?” The simple answer is yes and no. So just which insects and birds are harmful and which are beneficial? What are growers and managers using and doing to manage harmful insects and birds without using as many toxic pesticides and rodenticides? Let’s take a closer look at just a few harmful pests and their eco-friendly counterparts.

Just like our winemaker found his perfect muse, we've found the perfect meal to serve with any of our Jana Cathedral vintages. Lightly seared and then roasted, a thick porterhouse steak is topped with green peppercorn jus made with heavy cream, Cognac and brined peppercorns. The combination of juicy steak and a rich sauce pairs nicely with our Cabernet Sauvignon, which was named "Top Steak Wine and Best Cabernet" by Gayot.com, The Guide to the Good Life.
