Greetings //FirstName//,

Harvest is officially underway here in Amador County!  You can feel the excitement in the vineyards as workers carefully and quickly take grapes from the vine, put them in crates and haul them off to the winery where the second part of the magic takes place.  Even though it's a hectic time of year that keeps everyone hustling, it's also the most rewarding.  In a few weeks, when the dust has settled and the grapes are resting, we will rejoice in another successful crop which will make up the 2017 vintages.

It's no coincidence then that September is also the month we celebrate "California Wine Month".  Each year, for the last 13 years, the incumbent governor has signed a proclamation describing the deep and rich history of wine in California, and how the industry as a whole shapes the California economy.  In 2015, grape crops ranked 3rd in California's agricultural commodities, and wine from those grapes ranked 4th in California's leading export products.  With numbers like those, it's no wonder California has it's own "Wine Month".  We'll toast to that!

What's in this edition of the Harvey Wines Insider:

  • A video from Mollie, our assistant winemaker, about the next coming weeks of the harvest hustle.
  • A blog post about the California wine industry and how it shapes the domestic and international economies.
  • A special offer on two Barberas, with a portion of the sales benefiting the Hurricane Harvey victims.
  • A delicoius and easy recipe with Italian flare, perfect to pair with Barbera.
  • Upcoming Events Scott Harvey Wines will be hosting or attending

FROM THE (ASSISTANT) WINEMAKER
"HARVEST 2017 IS UNDERWAY - WHAT COMES NEXT?"

In this video, Mollie, our assistant winemaker, shares with us some her duties
at harvest as well as the harvest and winemaking equipment
that will run non-stop for the next few weeks.

BLOG OF THE MONTH
"CELEBRATING CALIFORNIA WINE MONTH"

September is "California Wine Month"!  And each year, for the last 13 years, the incumbent governor has signed a proclamation describing the deep and rich history of wine in California, and how the industry as a whole, shapes the California economy.  Two years ago we published a blog post that highlighted some industry statistics and facts through 2014.  These numbers focused on economics, consumption, and viticultural estimates and reports.

We know a lot can change in two years, and we thought it would be fun to revisit some of these facts and figures.  With the 2017 harvest just kicking off, we’ll have to wait a bit to get some of those numbers, but I predict they will be fantastic.  For now, let’s take a look back to 2016 and see just how much things have changed.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
"SPINACH & MUSHROOM STROMBOLI"

Barbera is an Italian variety hailing from the Piedmont region of Italy, and this particular grape variety thrives in the Amador County climate and soil. Barbera is a well-rounded, medium-bodied wine that is love at first sip!  The balanced pH and acidity, along with bright, fresh and bold flavors, make this wine the perfect "food wine".  Our featured recipe is one of our favorites from Blue Apron. A Spinach & Mushroom Stromboli with Fresh Mozzarella and Garlicky Tomato Sauce.  The flavors and spices in this crispy and savory meal are brought to life when paired with any of our Amador County Barberas.
